After more than a decade of fussy details, strong color, gilded and intricate accessories, my clients asked for help to update their classic Georgian inspired living room.   Still fond of their subtle pastel and deep mauve oriental rug and many of the major case goods in the room, pivotal choices were made to neutralize and “calm” the room down. A new “neutral” was added throughout:  grey, starting with the crushed velvet love seat, trimming now cleansed linen drapery panels with woven grey banding, and eliminating the pink walls to make way for a grey metallic grasscloth.

Linen white upholstery with grey cording replaced pure white fabric on the sofas, bringing a casual elegance to the room.  Additionally, a strictly traditional wing chair was replaced with a modern version upholstered in the client's favorite blue.  Bold blue chairs made way for a finely woven, modern cream, blue, pink, and mauve small-scale pattern.  Fully upholstered soft mauve adorns the fireplace opening, adding softness.  All the decorative and ornate mirrors were replaced by linear, transitional mirrors and accessories.  The client's final comment was, "this is exactly the kind of sprucing up I wanted - so soft, clean, and more minimal."
